Oil India Limited (OIL) was established in 1959 as a joint venture between the Burmah Oil Company and the Government of India, earning the status of a Maharatna PSU Company. 

Currently, it is a government-owned enterprise operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It ranks as India’s second-largest national oil and gas company. The company’s registered office is located in Assam, India.
