The markets fell sharply today, with Nifty down 420.35 points and Sensex losing 1,414.33 points. Nifty IT dropped 4.18%, a big fall. Among stocks, Home First Finance rose 10.14%, the top gainer, while TBO fell 11.69%, the biggest loser of the day.

  • The Indian government appointed Tuhin Kanta Pandey as SEBI’s new chairman for three years. He replaces Madhabi Puri Buch and becomes the 11th SEBI chief. He played a key role in shaping India’s financial policies as finance secretary.
  • The All-India House Price Index (HPI) rose 3.1% in Q3 2024-25, slowing from 4.3% in the previous quarter and 3.8% a year ago, as per RBI data. The index, based on transaction data from 10 major cities, reflects nationwide housing market trends.
  • The International Sugar Organization (ISO) increased its global sugar deficit forecast for 2024-25 to 4.88 million metric tonnes, up from 2.51 million, due to lower-than-expected production in India, as per its latest quarterly update on the sugar market.
  • India is set for one of the warmest March months on record, with above-average temperatures potentially impacting wheat yields. The India Meteorological Department will release its March temperature forecast on Friday.
  • India has extended the deadline for bidding for offshore mineral blocks by one month. Last year in November, India launched the auction of 13 offshore mineral blocks worth more than 1,50,000 crore.
