India at a Glance
  • The Cabinet approved ₹1,878 crore for a six-lane highway and ₹1,332 crore for railway projects across four states. ₹1,600 crore was also cleared to modernize irrigation under the PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana to improve water management.
  • Higher U.S. tariffs on China could boost Indian exports in textiles, leather, electronics, and engineering. A 90-day window with a flat 10% import duty offers Indian exporters a chance – if they act swiftly and stay competitive.
  • India and the UK deepened economic ties with $400M in new trade deals. India proposed unlimited UK luxury EV imports in exchange for budget EV exports, aiming to boost automaker gains and future global trade talks.
  • Equity mutual fund inflows dropped 14% in March to ₹25,082 crore, continuing a two-month decline. While large-cap and sectoral funds slowed, small-cap and multi-cap saw gains. SIP flows dipped slightly to ₹25,926 crore despite market recovery.
Markets Beyond India
  • In a sharp response to rising U.S. tariffs, China plans to impose 125% duties on American goods – up from 84% – fueling fears of a deeper, prolonged trade war. This comes as China grapples with slowing growth and a property crisis.
  • U.S. bond yields soared, with the 30-year reaching 4.90%, its biggest weekly jump since 1982. Experts warn it’s not inflation-driven but a sign of stress from potential recession and rising fiscal concerns.
  • Britain’s economy grew 0.5% in February – its best performance since March 2024 – driven by manufacturing and services.
