Long-term capital gains (LTCG) are profits accrued due to the sale or purchase of securities. For the equity segment, long-term capital gains are profits on shares held for more than 12 months. 

Note: Long-term capital gains are taxed at the rate of 10% excluding any cess or surcharge currently. However, these are exempt for profits of less than 1 lakh rupees.
