For certain order types, you can choose to disclose to the market, the entire quantity, partial quantity or none of the shares you want to trade.  The quantity that you disclose is shown in the market depth. This feature can generally be used while placing large orders to reduce impact cost. This also helps to get a better execution by disclosing only a smaller portion of the large order in the best bids and asks in the market depth.
