RBI Cuts Rates Again – What Does It Mean for You?

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6% in its April 9th policy meeting—the second consecutive cut this year. It also shifted its stance from neutral to accommodative, signaling a growth-focused approach amidst global economic uncertainties.

To boost liquidity, RBI lowered the Standing Deposit Facility rate to 5.75% and the Marginal Standing Facility rate to 6.25%, easing banks’ short-term fund management and potentially increasing credit availability.

Inflation concerns eased as retail inflation hit a 7-month low (3.61% in February), prompting the RBI to reduce its FY26 inflation forecast to 4%. However, growth forecasts were slightly cut to 6.5% for FY26 due to global trade tensions.

Loan holders may see reduced EMIs as banks pass rate cuts linked to external benchmarks like repo rates. RBI aims for cautious, non-inflationary growth in a challenging economic environment.
