Shares of Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) dropped on Tuesday after reports said Delhi’s draft EV policy proposes banning new CNG auto registrations from August 15 and replacing expiring permits with e-auto ones. While IGL’s CNG volumes largely come from cars, the move raises long-term concerns for the company.

  • India imported more finished steel than it exported for the second year in a row. Imports rose 14.6%, while exports fell 35%. To control this, a 12% tax on some steel imports has been proposed.
  • Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has asked the government to restart the interest subsidy scheme as new 26% US tariffs may delay payments to Indian exporters. US buyers are also demanding up to 14% discounts, adding pressure on Indian businesses.
  • The government has clarified that companies in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) prohibited sectors can issue bonus shares to existing foreign investors, as long as their shareholding doesn’t change. This update ensures clarity while keeping FDI rules intact in sensitive sectors.
  • India will set up an import monitoring group to prevent goods from China, Vietnam, and others – facing high US tariffs – from being dumped in India. This comes as the US imposes a 26% tariff on Indian goods.
  • Government officials from India and the US discussed speeding up a bilateral trade agreement after the US imposed 26% tariffs on Indian goods. It marked the first high-level contact since the tariff announcement.
  • In 10 years, the Mudra scheme has supported over 52 crore small borrowers with ₹33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans. 68% of beneficiaries are women, with growing credit to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) remain low at 3.6%.
Markets Beyond India
  • Major Asian and European indices traded higher on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei jumped over 6%, while markets in China and Hong Kong saw gains above 1.5%. European indices like Euro Stoxx 50 and Germany’s DAX also rose around 1%.
  • US stock futures rose slightly after last week’s sharp losses driven by tariff uncertainty. Key tech stocks saw nearly 2% gains in premarket trade. However, market sentiment remains cautious, with major indices still hovering near bear market territory.
  • Gold prices rose 0.3% to $2,990 per ounce as investors turned to safe-haven assets amid rising trade tensions. US gold futures were up 1.1%, reflecting heightened worries about inflation and recession risks.
  • The US dollar moved mixed as markets reacted to rising tariffs. The euro edged up 0.2%, the Japanese yen gained 0.1%, while the offshore yuan stayed stable despite China’s response.
  • Vietnam offers zero duties on US imports, giving it an edge over India, which faces a 26% tariff. Bangladesh, another key competitor in textiles, may also offer duty relief to the US to stay competitive amid rising tariffs.
