Highlights

- The government will raise ₹8 lakh crore via dated securities in H1 FY26, including ₹10,000 crore in Sovereign Green Bonds. RBI set the ways and means advances (WMA) limit at ₹1.50 lakh crore.
- Tokyo’s inflation rose 2.4% in March, exceeding forecasts, fueling speculation of a Bank of Japan (BOJ) rate hike. Rising food costs, a weak yen, and wage concerns add pressure on policymakers.
- Bank credit to industry grew 7.3% YoY in February 2025, down from 8.4% last year. Credit to services rose 13%, while personal loans growth slowed to 14%, RBI data showed.
- Between April and February, the Indian government spent more than it earned, leading to a fiscal deficit of ₹13.47 lakh crore – about 86% of its full-year target. It collected ₹20.16 lakh crore in taxes, covering nearly 79% of its goal. The government has now set its fiscal deficit target at 4.8% of GDP for this financial year.
- The Indian government will impose a 10% import duty on desi chana (Bengal gram) starting April 1, ending the duty-free policy that had been in place since May 2024 to boost supply and control prices.
- The government has approved a ₹22,919 crore PLI scheme to boost electronics component manufacturing in India. It aims to attract ₹59,350 crore in investments, generate ₹4.56 lakh crore in production, and create 91,600 direct jobs.
