- India and Mauritius will now trade using their local currencies – INR (Indian Rupee) and MUR (Mauritian Rupee). This move simplifies payments, reduces costs, and strengthens economic ties between both nations, boosting trade and financial cooperation.
- India’s trade deficit hit a 3-year low in February to $14.05 billion from $22.9 billion in January, primarily due to a steep decline in imports. Exports grew modestly, and India even posted a rare overall trade surplus of $4.5 billion.
- The Aluminium Association of India has urged the government to extend the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme for aluminum producers. RoDTEP benefits Special Economic Zones, Export Oriented Units, and those operating under Advance Authorisation units, which contribute 45% of exports. Without support, rising costs and taxes (10% of production) could reduce competitiveness, cut jobs, and slow domestic growth.
- India and the Philippines are exploring a trade deal to strengthen ties in autos, IT, pharma, and nickel. The Philippines seeks Indian investment in its nickel sector to diversify exports and enhance supply chains. Bilateral trade grew 8.6% year-on-year.
- India and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are expanding collaboration in agriculture, food security, AI, and tech exchange, building on existing efforts in digital agriculture and climate-resilient farming, announced after Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s meeting with Bill Gates.
Market Highlights
Birla Estates, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aditya Birla Real Estate Limited, launched Birla Punya in Central Pune, its first residential project in the city, with a revenue potential of ₹2,700 crore, offering 1,000 luxury flats across 4 towers.
Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has raised its borrowing limit for FY 2024-25 by ₹5,000 crore to ₹29,200 crore. Funds will be raised through bonds, bank loans, and international credit to support renewable energy growth.
IRCON, in a joint venture with BRC, secured a ₹1,096.17 crore Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract from the Meghalaya government to build a new secretariat complex in Shillong.
Insolation Energy received a letter of award (LOA) worth ₹340.20 crore from Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation for rooftop solar projects; and a purchase order worth ₹32 crore from Teerth Gopicon for supplying SPV modules.
Engineers India secured a ₹253 crore order from Numaligarh Refinery for engineering, procurement, construction, and management services in a 360-kilo tonne per annum Polypropylene Unit project.
Bajaj Finserv will acquire Allianz SE’s 26% stake in Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company, raising its ownership to 100%, for a consideration of ₹13,780 crore and ₹10,400 crore respectively.
